The event took place in Pernambuco, Recife, and reached 98 people, including students and human rights defenders.
We filled an auditorium to talk about Collective Justice! With the purpose of launching the Collective Justice Handbook for Human Rights Defenders for invited local defenders, we held a workshop in the city of Recife, with the support of the Catholic University of Pernambuco and the UNESCO Dom Helder Câmara Chair.
Our workshop, led by our researcher Jaciele Davi Neto, was a success, with a lot of knowledge exchange about Collective Justice and the essential presence of Social Entities and human rights defenders. We reached 98 people in a twelve-hour training, divided between August 18 and 19. The second day of activities was offered by ILAJUC’s partner in the production of the handbook: Protection International. A methodology for risk assessment and protection developed by PI was used to expand and institutionally strengthen human rights defenders around the world.
The event also featured the participation of Rayana Burgos, Umbanda follower, Political Scientist (UFPE), Climate Consultant, Co-Founder of the Hub of Youth Climate Leaders of Pernambuco, who works with research and public policies focusing on gender, race and climate; Paulo Ricardo Sampaio, popular educator, environmental activist, member of the Northeast Chapter of the Laudato Si’ Movement, consultant on the Faith in the Climate project of the Institute of Religious Studies – ISER, who brought essential speeches on Human Rights; and also the professor and coordinator of the UNESCO/Unicap Dom Helder Câmara Chair of Human Rights, Manoel Morais, who brought the local example of rights violation that was taken to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.
