So that human rights defenders have a better chance of success in their collective disputes in the judiciary.
ILAJUC was created with the important mission of promoting access to collective justice in Latin America, by establishing an agenda of rights for groups and collectives. We recognize that various violations of socio-environmental rights are common and shared by those living in Latin America and that we still have a long way to go to achieve more just and egalitarian societies.
In Brazil, for example, our legal system has important instruments to guarantee the rights of groups, collectives, communities and peoples. With this guide, ILAJUC hopes to help overcome a historical gap: the lack of knowledge about ways to guarantee access to collective justice. We want everyone, especially those dedicated to promoting human rights, to be able to know and understand the step-by-step process for protecting collective rights in the country.
In one of the countries where the most socio-environmental activists die in the world, this booklet is a tool for human rights defenders to have a better chance of success in their disputes in the judiciary.
