With WWF-Brazil, we launched the guide “Navigating Deforestation Risks and Embracing Sustainability in Brazilian Investments”, which guides investors on how to identify, prevent and mitigate deforestation risks. The document highlights the relationship between deforestation, the climate crisis and threats to the Amazon and Cerrado biomes, addressing national and international legislation, such as the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), and due diligence standards.
The guide analyzes the factors that drive deforestation, with a focus on the beef and soy industries, and emphasizes the role of financial institutions in adopting due diligence practices to ensure sustainable supply chains. It includes a practical list of actions for investors to align their portfolios with environmental objectives and mitigate legal and financial risks.
Available in Portuguese and English on the WWF-Brazil and ILAJUC websites, the guide is an essential resource for investors seeking to protect their financial interests while contributing to environmental conservation and promoting a more sustainable future for Brazil.
In addition to the guide, we have a shortened version called step-by-step, which presents only the list of actions. This version is also available in Portuguese and English on the WWF-Brazil and ILAJUC websites.
The Portuguese version of the guide was launched in September 2024, in a series of WWF seminars with Rever that spoke with industry experts. The English version was launched at Climate Week in New York, a week later.
